Suppression of the superconducting energy gap in intrinsic Josephson junctions of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ single crystals
نویسنده
چکیده
We have observed back-bending structures at high bias current in the current-voltage curves of intrinsic Josephson junctions. These structures may be caused by nonequilibrium quasiparticle injection and/or Joule heating. The energy gap suppression varies considerably with temperature. Different levels of the suppression are observed when the same level of current passes through top electrodes of different sizes. Another effect which is seen and discussed, is a super-current “reentrance” of a single intrinsic Josephson junction with high bias current. Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ Intrinsic Josephson Junctions Fabricated by a Simple Technique without Photolithography
Due to the small roughness in the surface of the crystal sample, it is hard to use photolithography in the patterning process of the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ intrinsic Josephson junction. In this paper, we report a simple technique for fabricating the Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ intrinsic Josephson junctions. In the patterning process metal masks are used instead of photolithography and argon ion milling is appli...
متن کاملPredominantly Superconducting Origin of Large Energy Gaps in Underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8−δ from Tunneling Spectroscopy
New tunneling data are reported in underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8−δ using superconductor-insulator-superconductor break junctions. Energy gaps, ∆, of 51±2, 54±2 and 57±3 meV are observed for three crystals with Tc=77, 74, and 70 K respectively. These energy gaps are nearly three times larger than for overdoped crystals with similar Tc. Detailed examination of tunneling spectra over a wide doping rang...
متن کاملSingle Junction and Intrinsic Josephson Junction Tunneling Spectroscopies of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ
Tunneling spectroscopy measurements are reported on optimally-doped and overdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ single crystals. A novel point contact method is used to obtain superconductor-insulator-normal metal (SIN) and SIS break junctions as well as intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJ) from nanoscale crystals. Three junction types are obtained on the same crystal to compare the quasiparticle peaks and hi...
متن کاملJosephson-vortex-flow terahertz emission in layered high-Tc superconducting single crystals.
We report on the successful terahertz emission (0.6-1 THz) that is continuous and tunable in its frequency and power, by driving Josephson vortices in resonance with the collective standing Josephson plasma modes excited in stacked Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x intrinsic Josephson junctions. Shapiro-step detection was employed to confirm the terahertz-wave emission. Our results provide a strong feasibility o...
متن کاملEnergy gaps in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ cuprate superconductors
The relationship between the cuprate pseudogap (Δ(p)) and superconducting gap (Δ(s)) remains an unsolved mystery. Here, we present a temperature- and doping-dependent tunneling study of submicron Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+δ) intrinsic Josephson junctions, which provides a clear evidence that Δ(s) closes at a temperature T(c) (0) well above the superconducting transition temperature T(c) but far belo...
